Five Prayers for Your Children

You don’t need special words to pray for your kids. These are here to help when you aren’t sure where to start. Pray them as they are, change them, or make them your own.

For their faith
Father, thank you for the gift of my child. Before I ever held them, you already knew them. Draw their heart toward you early and keep it near you always. Let them know Jesus, not as a story they were told, but as a friend who walks with them. When their faith is tested, hold on to them tighter than they can hold on to you. Amen.

For their protection
Lord, you are their shelter. Guard their body, their mind, and their heart. Surround them with people who are safe and trustworthy, and give them the courage to speak up when something feels wrong. In the places I can’t go, go with them. When they are afraid, remind them that you are near. Amen.

For who they are
God, the world will try to tell my child who to be. Let your voice be the loudest one they hear. Remind them that they are fearfully and wonderfully made, loved not for what they achieve but because they are yours. Protect them from comparison and from the lie that they are not enough. Amen.

For their choices and friendships
Lord, give my child wisdom beyond their years. Help them choose friends who bring out the best in them, and help them be that kind of friend to others. Make them kind, honest, and brave enough to stand up for someone who is left out. When they get it wrong, help them own it and find your grace waiting for them. Amen.

For me as their parent
Father, I can’t do this on my own. Give me patience when I’m tired, wisdom when I don’t know what to do, and gentleness when I want to react. Help me show my child your love in how I listen and how I forgive. Where I fall short, cover my mistakes with your grace, and let my child see you more clearly than they see my failures. Amen.
